Numbers and the Bible

I am a math nerd. I love patterns, numbers, and puzzles. I believe that math is a language and that it can speak to you. It at least speaks to me and my world makes sense when there are numbers involved. My testimony deepens when I find patterns and numbers in the scriptures. This isn't a dealve into numerology, but instead using the numbers given in a story or scripture passage to deepen my understanding of the lessons and doctrines being told in the stories and passages.

But I feel that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ must be mathematicians and that they enjoy numbers and patterns as well. So I am going to do posts on the different numbers and their meanings, so when a number is mentioned in a Bible passage, you can learn more lessons about what is being taught.

Why do the same numbers keep popping up in the scriptures - 40 days of Noah's flood, 40 years in the wilderness for the people of Moses, and Jesus fasted for 40 days- Why use the number 40? There is a pattern here and I hope to discuss this and many other patterns in a series of posts about numbers in the scriptures.

January - the start of the piles

Okay, so I am a pile maker. I pile and put off making decisions. Especially paper piles. And these piles get moved around my house. Sometimes the piles get hidden in my room so that I don't have to live with them, sometimes they get moved out so that my room is clean. I WANT to get RID of these piles. At least drastically this month. So I have been cleaning out my room this holiday season. I have cleared out my closet for the most part and the resulting piles of being gone for the two weeks over the Christmas and New Year's holiday has gotten out of control. So here is my current piles! They will be taken away a little at a time this month.

Starting November early

Okay,
I know that it isn't November yet, but I know that my year supply stuff will take more than a month to work on. But I am so proud of me! I inventoried my toiletries, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. I want to figure out how much of each we "need" during the year and put a list on the inside of each cabinet door so we can mark when we use something to help with the inventory. I have been getting so many items for free the past two months at CVS and Walgreens. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't buying too much!

November - Food Storage

There are many things that I need for food storage, but I am going to try to break it down into little steps that I will actually do.
For my focus of the month of November, I am going to accomplish the following things:
Make a master list of items I need in my food storage including: cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, and canned/boxed foods
Make a system to document what items I have and what items I use
Update 72 hour kits
Make a list of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items we enjoy as a family and what supplies I need to make them.
Buy items that are on sale for Thanksgiving including turkey. Can turkey meat.

My new goal

I have been feeling really burned out lately. I know that I have been doing too much, but what to cut out? I can't really, but I can organize myself better. And so I am going to refocus myself. I have been thinking this past week that the Lord wants us to be more like His temple, both our house and our body. So I am going to set up 12 monthly habits that I will follow adding one each month so that a year from now, hopefully both my body and my home will be more temple-like.
I am following two scriptures. The first is found in the Doctrine and Covenants:
Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing, and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God;
Since everything on earth has both a temporal and spiritual part, I will be working on both the temporal and spiritual parts of my house.

This year's temporal house goals:
Organized house - no paper piles
Straightened house - end of day house picked up
House of Learning - daily learning lessons for children and myself

This year's spiritual house goals:
food storage - plan, place, and store
Provident living - budget and long term goals
Family Home Evening and Prayers - Establish a firmer habit

My second scripture is found in the New Testament:
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:19

This year's temporal body goals:
Good food
Exercise
Relax

This year's spiritual body goals:
Temple work
Prayer and scripture study
Journal

So my calendar plan:
